Will xbox points (microsoft points) bought from other countries work in another?

my friend is in poland and i asked him if he can get me a game.i also asked him if he can get me microsoft points and xbox live.but the guy he was buying it off said that he wasn't sure if it will work outside poland.im in ireland. if you have any idea please tell me thanks.if you have any questions please ask
